The Abrons Art Center and Danspace Project Co-Present:
Out of Space:
(466 Grand Street, Manhattan)
Jonah Bokaer's new work The Invention Of Minus One is an epic investigation of the moving body in relationship to contemporary technologies of capture.
Using DanceForms 1.0 software and 3D motion capture, the choreographer examines movement documentation and erasure. The Invention Of Minus One is performed by three award-winning dancers:
Holley Farmer, Rashaun Mitchell, and Banu Ogan. Music composed by Christian Marclay, virtual décor by Michael Cole, lighting by Aaron Copp, and original costumes by Isaac Mizrahi complement the work.
The program will also include False Start, Bokaer's new technology-influenced solo, which has been animated, choreographed, and performed by the artist through the use of digital media. Paying homage to Jasper Johns’ renowned painting by the same name,
Bokaer's False Start addresses how a single body can pluralize and subvert its own image.
"
well-crafted yet cutting edge choreography that moves dance into the new century."
