City/Dans:
Susan Rethorst will premiere the second in a series of "No Money/No Space" dances. As with
its predecessor 208 East Broadway, this new work comments on the current conditions
surrounding the dance field and subverts those conditions to facilitate Rethorst's choreography.
In part one, which premiered as part of Dance Theater Workshop's Nothing Festival in April
2007, Rethorst choreographed a work exclusively in her living room and subsequently recreated
the room in DTW's performance space. In this second installment, Rethorst extends her vision of
home by incorporating work created in the park visible from her living room window. Dancers
include Vicky Shick, Jeanine Durning, Deborah Black, Rethorst, and others to be announced.
The award-winning Carol Mullins lights the work.
* The performance on Thursday, May 29 will be followed by a Sunday Rap-Up, a casual discussion with the artist and her collaborators moderated by Tere O'Connor.
"…Ms. Rethorst creates worlds out of single, simple gestures…"

208 Broadway part two is made possible, in part, with funds from the 2007-08 Danspace Project Commissioning Initiative with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
