Photo by Alex Escalante I like to be in America!
O.K. by me in America!
Ev'rything free in America
For a small fee in America!

Immigrant goes to America,
Many hellos in America;
Nobody knows in America
12 million souls in America!

Alex Escalante's new evening length quartet Clandestino finds inspiration in the struggle to maintain one's culture independent of borders, boundaries, passports, or green cards. Utilizing film, live music, and Mexican social dance, Clandestino sheds light on a seemingly invisible population. The work features performance by Ren้e Archibald, Escalante, Pedro Osorio, and Sandy Tillett with lighting design by Joe Lavasseur.

Clandestino is made possible, in part, with funds from the 2007-08 Danspace Project Commissioning Initiative with support from the Jerome Foundation. The development of this project was supported through Movement Research's Artist-in-Residence program and through LEXDance's Under the Radar Residency Program at Lexington Center for the Arts in Greene County New York. Additional support was provided by the NYS DanceForce with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Dance Program, Altria Group, Inc. and The J.P. Morgan Chase Foundation.
