Our popular performance sampler returns for the spring season with three engaging nights of performance. This season, in association with the New York State DanceForce, we aim to spark dialogue across the state by presenting upstate and local artists together on three programs.
Empty your cupboards for a worthy cause and open your minds for some thought provoking dance as curators Gregory Cary of Kaatsbaan International Dance Center Sondra Loring of Upriver/Downtown Dance, and Marýa Wethers of Dance Theater Workshop
serve up an enticing medley of work by contemporary dance artists. Christine Shallenberg lights the performances.
On Thursday, June 19th, Gregory Cary unites upstate and downtown with an evening of work by local artist Daniel Linehan, the Troy, NY based Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, and Woodstock's Lynn Barr Dance Theatre.
On Friday, June 20th, Sondra Loring presents local artists Takemi Kitamura and Tamieca McCloud on a program with upstate New Yorkers Tomie Hahn (Ghent, NY) and Amii LeGendre (Red Hook, NY).
And, on Saturday, June 21st, Marýa Wethers' presents Brooklyn-ites Kyle Abraham and Leah Morrison on a program with White Plains artist Sidra Bell and Worcester, NY based artist Pooh Kaye.
Food proceeds collected during the weekend benefit the AIDS Service Center, NYC. www.ascnyc.org
The New York State DanceForce is a network of dance activists committed to increasing the quantity and quality of dance activity across the state. Danspace Project is a long standing member of the DanceForce, and this edition of FOOD FOR THOUGHT is just one of our DanceForce projects that links artists and audiences statewide.
This summer, Danspace will support two arts workshops in Hudson, NY taught by Sondra Loring in conjunction with her site-specific performance at the Olana State Historic Site. www.danceforce.org
FOOD FOR THOUGHT is supported, in part, by the NYS DanceForce, with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Dance Program and Altria Group, Inc. FOOD FOR THOUGHT is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
