CARRIE AHERN DANCE
The Unity of Skin

April 3-5, 2008 [Thu-Sat] at 8:30 PM
Admission: $15.00 (members $10.00)

Photo: Olek Choreographer Carrie Ahern returns to Danspace Project with a new evening length work. The Unity of Skin entangles the viewer in an unending labyrinth of textures. The work’s cyclic character encourages the imagination to distort form and embraces the possibility of continuing indefinitely. Dizzily growing and fading, the line between audience and performer becomes blurred. An intimate trio performed by David Figueroa, Kelly Hayes, and Jillian Hollis, The Unity of Skin features a malleable set of crocheted fabric and costumes by visual artist Olek with lighting design by Carol Mullins. Cellist/composer Greg Heffernan contributes an original score that is performed live on cello and laptop.

… a rich tapestry of densly layered images of pent-up ferocity. … striking investigation. …
Culture Catch

Listen in as Carrie discusses her process in creating this new work with Eva Yaa Asantewaa.

The Unity of Skin has been made possible, in part, by a Brooklyn Arts Exchange Space Grant; a fractured Atlas Creative Development Grant; Materials for the Arts with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs; NYC Department of Sanitation, NYC Department of Education; and generous individual donors.
