Douglas Dunn returns to Danspace Project with a special two-week run in celebration of our 35th Birthday. Dunn resurrects Sky Eye twenty years after its U.S. premiere at Danspace Project [Oct 1-3], followed by the world premiere of a new work, Cleave [Oct 8-10].
Sky Eye is a play between spirit and flesh as seen by a wandering, elevated eye looking down at six disparate "cultures" with music ranging from Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina to ritual drumming of Ghana. The revival includes original lighting design by Carol Mullins and design by Mimi Gross.
Cleave is inspired, in part, by Dunn's relationship to the sanctuary at Danspace Project. Accompanied by Bach's compositions for piano, Dunn will perform along with Grazia Della-Terza, Kira Blazek, Hope Davis, Liz Filbrun, Jean Freebury, Jordan Kriston, Brian Lawson, Paul Singh, Timothy Emmett Lee Ward, and Christopher Williams.
*Please join us for a Post-Performance Discussion moderated by poet Anne Waldman.
Cleave is made possible, in part, with funds from the 2009-2010 Danspace Project Commissioning Initiative with support from individuals who have contributed to Danspace Project's Creation Fund.
